Our Winemaker: Antony Worch
Originally from Alsace in northeast France, Antony is an award-winning winemaker in the New Zealand wine industry. Graduating with a Master in Winemaking and Vineyard Management at Montpellier University, Antony gained experience in various regions of France and South Africa, before moving to New Zealand.
Growing up in France where wine accompanies food, and influenced by a mother who is a chef, Worch likes to make wine with mouth-feel and texture that complements food. His approach to winemaking is one of minimal interference, preferring to let the individual characteristics and attributes of each vineyard shine through in the final product. Worch describes the wine produced along Earnscleugh Road as being aromatic and powerful, with more fruit sweetness.

Growing conditions
Central Otago is recognised as the southernmost wine growing region in the world. The seasonal extremes experienced throughout the year, combined with the schist-based soil that is rich in minerals, are important factors for the premium quality wines produced in the region. Temperatures can range from below 0°C at night to 30°C+ during the day.
Como Villa Estate experiences its own mini micro-climate with over 1,000 growing degree days. This allows for a long hanging time and helps to develop the depth of flavour, colour intensity and complexity of our wine. Grapes are ripened on a dry and rocky, north facing slope surrounded by buried river boulders and natural schist rock.
